Pabla Flores
Pabla Flores represents the living history of ancestral Bullerengue from María La Baja, Bolívar, Colombia. She has been recognized as the heir and bearer of the characteristic tradition of the "Bailes Cantaos" of this region.
Bulerengue is a traditional music and dance style from the Caribbean region of Colombia, especially from the Atlántico department. It's known for its lively rhythms and lyrics that often reflect everyday life, culture, and Afro-Colombian traditions.
Born in the village of El Florido in María La Baja, which is part of the Montes de María region in the Department of Bolívar. She is the daughter of the great Matrona of Bullerengue and "Lifetime Queen of Bullerengue from María La Baja," Eulalia Gonzales Bello.
Pabla Flores is a woman who defends values, tradition, family, and is an Afro-descendant advocate of peace and a victim of violence. Since 2006, she has taken up the banners of tradition and Bullerengue, starting her journey as a bearer of this legacy from both a pedagogical and musical perspective. This has led her to be recognized in the Bullerengue community and among the general population as "The Great Master." She has been involved in significant processes for Bullerengue at the national and global levels, such as "Son de Tambó," and since 2014 with her musical group "Pal’ Lereo Pabla," which has facilitated partnerships for long-term educational and cultural processes like the "Escuela de Formación Integral Eulalia Gonzales."
She is the composer of over 50 Bullerengue and traditional music pieces, including works like the "Adaptation of Traditional Children's Rhymes to Bullerengue," initially supported by the Colombian Ministry of Culture, a process known as Pedagogy + Culture.
